Dominican ULCC Arajet Launching Toronto-Santo Domingo Service with Introductory Fares

Arajet

Months after a new 'blue skies' agreement between Canada and the Dominican Republic was signed allowing for airlines from both countries to operate flights from any airport in Canada to any in the Dominican Republic, Arajet, the DR's low-cost airline, has announced it's launching flights between Toronto and Santo Domingo.

As Open Jaw reported in FEB 2023, until now, 94 per cent of flights between the two countries have been operated by Canadian carriers, with the new agreement opening the door to players like Arajet, which, according to Simple Flying, "has signaled its intent for some time to commence operations" between Canada and the DR.

The new YYZ - SDQ route is set to commence operations on 24OCT.

Arajet has also announced a limited-time introductory promotion on tickets. Until 12JUL, one-way fares are available for USD $179. Arajet representatives confirmed to Open Jaw that the carrier does work with the travel trade.

Víctor Pacheco Méndez, CEO and founder of Arajet, said, “Our new flight from Pearson International to Las Américas International in Santo Domingo will allow our Dominican diaspora to come home with the best possible fares but will also enable more Canadians traveling for tourism or business, to visit our island and continue increasing the exchange between our two countries. The Arajet effect will continue benefiting passengers across the Americas, and our Canadians friends won’t be the exception."

The new service will operate four times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. In addition to the direct flights between YYZ and SDQ, the new route is planned to allow for connections to other Arajet destinations in South and Central America and the Caribbean in the near future.

The airline operates direct flights from Santo Domingo to cities including Mexico City, Cancun, San José, Guatemala, San Salvador, Bogotá, Medellín, Barranquilla, Quito, Guayaquil, Lima, Sao Paulo, Aruba, Curaçao, Saint Martin, and Kingston. Flights are operated using new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
