Wild Weather Continues to Hamper Airport Ops in Eastern North America

Lingering weather issues continue to cause problems for travel in Eastern Canada and the Northeast U.S.

The YHZ website showed 10 cancelled arriving flights and eight cancelled departures for 14FEB as of 9 a.m. EST.

A strong storm has been blowing through Atlantic Canada the past few days, forcing multiple flight cancellations and school closures. Up to 150 cm’s of snow fell in Cape Breton during the storm.

A relatively heavy snowfall in the Northeast U.S. wreaked havoc with flight schedules in New York, Washington D.C. and other cities.

“If you’re travelling today, please confirm your flight status before heading to the airport and give yourself extra time to drive to the road conditions and arrive safely,” YHZ officials said on their Twitter/X feed. “Our winter operations team is working hard to help get you on your way.”

Toronto Pearson took to its X/Twitter site to say that airlines “have cancelled five of the 14 flights scheduled to bring travellers from Halifax Stanfield to Toronto Pearson today. Today’s 14 flights departing Toronto Pearson for Halifax Stanfield are currently scheduled to proceed.”

Flightaware.com reported 1593 cancelled US flights on 13FEB. As of 9 a.m. EST on 14FEB it listed 330 cancellations.
