Porter Launches New Flights from Ottawa to St. John’s

Porter Airlines' new Embraer E195-E2.

Porter Airlines began service between Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and St. John’s International Airport (YYT) on 06JUN, becoming the only airline to connect the two destinations with non-stop flights.

“St. John’s is an underserved market in Eastern Canada. Our passengers are asking for more new service and it’s exciting that Porter can provide another opportunity to enjoy our elevated economy experience between the nation’s capital and the east coast. This route also complements our growing presence in Ottawa, where we expect to see more than two million passengers travelling on Porter through the capital in 2024," said Kevin Jackson, president of Porter Airlines.

The new route starts with daily service on its Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.

Ottawa is a hub for Porter Airlines, which provides flights to over a dozen destinations in Canada and the U.S. These include regional centers such as Fredericton and Thunder Bay, cities in Western Canada like Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg, and locations in the United States such as Orlando, Boston, and New York.

Porter said its presence in Ottawa continues to grow, with more non-stop flights than ever before - by August, the airline will operate 35 daily flights.

"St. John's offers visitors a mix of history and modern attractions. The oceanside capital of Newfoundland, St. John’s is popular for its whale watching tours, Signal Hill, local hangouts and small-town charm," Porter stated in a press release.

The new route allows pax from St. John’s (YYT) to fly nonstop with Porter to three destinations in Eastern Canada: Ottawa (YOW), Halifax (YHZ), and Toronto(YYZ). This is Porter's second new route in Newfoundland, following the launch of the YHZ—Deer Lake (YDF) route.
