Jamaica Closes Airports Ahead of Hurricane Beryl

 

The Jamaica Tourist Board has issued the following update on Hurricane Beryl as of 6:00pm EDT 02JUL:

Please note that while airports are closing by end of day today, including Sangster at Montego Bay, three Air Transat flights are still scheduled to fly out tonight (to YYZ and YUL) before its scheduled closing at 11:59pm.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jamaica as Hurricane Beryl makes its way through the Caribbean. In anticipation of the storm’s approach, the Government of Jamaica and relevant emergency response agencies have initiated comprehensive preparations to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors.

All necessary measures are being taken to mitigate the impact of Hurricane Beryl. Emergency services are on high alert, and response protocols are in place to handle potential challenges.

Please be advised the following airports will close 02JUL at the following times (EST):

  • Sangster International Airport (Montego Bay) at 11:59 p.m.
  • Norman Manley International Airport (Kingston) at 10:00 p.m.
  • Ian Fleming International Airport (Ocho Rios) at 7:00 p.m.

They will remain closed on Wednesday, 03JUL and reopening will be announced pending post-storm assessments.

At Sangster International Airport, the following additional flights will operate on Tuesday, 02JUL 2024:

  • American Airlines: AA 9607 Miami (MIA) 6:35 p.m.
  • Southwest Airlines: WN 8814 Orlando (MCO) 5:15 p.m.
  • Air Transat: TS 9517 Toronto (YYZ) 11:20 p.m.; TS 9487 Montreal (YUL) 11:00 p.m.; and TS 9485 Montreal (YUL) 9:30 p.m

Visitors are advised to contact their travel advisor, accommodation, and airline providers for updates on the storm’s impact on transportation and accommodations. The Board also encourages everyone to take the necessary precautions and stay abreast of updates related to the system to remain safe.
