On the heels of Air Canada pilots authorizing a strike vote, the pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), will conduct a nationwide informational picket.
On 27AUG, pilots from all Air Canada bases in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Winnipeg plan to “demonstrate their solidarity in modernizing their decade-old contract.”
Pilots voted overwhelmingly to authorize union leaders to call a strike, which could begin 17SEP.
ALPA announced on 22AUG that 98% of Air Canada pilots participated in the vote, with 98% voting in favour of job action to achieve a new contract with the airline.
“Our goal is to reach an agreement; however, our employer continues to force us closer to a strike position by not listening to our needs at the negotiating table regarding fair compensation, respectable retirement benefits, and quality-of-life improvements. After more than a year of negotiations, management must now realize that if they fail to reach an agreement, they will be responsible for us withdrawing our services,” said F/O Charlene Hudy, chair of ALPA’s Air Canada Master Executive Council.
According to ALPA, on Tuesday 27AUG, the nationwide informational picket will proceed as follows:
