Michelle Desreux, President, Uniglobe Western Canada

How long have you been with this company? 28 years. It’s true! During that time I worked in California and around the world – we are in 38 countries.

What did you want to be as a kid? I wanted to be the Jane Goodall of the elephant community.

Ever had a brush with fame? Yes – I actually did meet Jane Goodall.

What do people not know about you? That I do professional story telling.

Describe your dream vacation. I just can’t get enough of South America.

What skill or talent do you admire in someone? Anyone who can reduce the complex to the simple.

What’s going to be the biggest challenge for the industry in the next 12 months? Growth in the face of a travelling public who are on at minimum pause and maybe stop.

What was the best piece of advice you ever received? During tough times, my mother tells me “Darling, these are the things that form your character.”

Who do you most respect in the industry? Gary Charlwood, Uniglobe’s founder – he had a vision of a global organization and he made it happen.

If you could change one thing about the industry what would it be? I would like to see us find again the balance between business effectiveness and fun.

If you could sit next to anyone on a long haul flight who would it be? Writer Maya Angelou.  So wise and articulate.

What’s your worst habit? Not listening long enough.

And what do you hope to be doing in 10 years? I would like to have completed my bucket list!
