How long have you been in the business? 20 years! I started with Signature in ticketing and moved to reservations and inside sales.
Tell me about your first airplane ride. I don’t remember – I was 2 when we emigrated from England. My mum says I was a terror and screamed the whole way. To this day I hate flying – even though I’ve flown 250 times.
If you could have any job in the business what would it be? I’d like to work for WestJet in marketing.
What was your best FAM? Oh! The Cook Islands, hands down. Our leaders were so much fun and we had such a close knit group – and the islands are dreamy.
What drives you crazy? Bad customer service.
If you could have a secret weapon what would be it be? I’d like to be able to fly. I’d trust myself over any aircraft!
What was your biggest individual sale? An Africa/Italy/Austria trip for a retiring doctor and his wife. It was over 30 days, and close to $40,000. A bit nerve-wracking for me - when you spend that sort of money it better be good! But they are lovely people and still clients.
Do you have a magic sentence to close the sale? I learned a long time ago: “Do you want to go ahead and book that?”
Do you have any time management strategies? We have to: Lists and your Outlook calendar and Post-it notes. It’s all about prioritizing.
How do you cope with jet lag? Sleep!
What do you do to keep your clients loyal? I care about them.
Do you see an up and coming destination? Perhaps Hawaii or Barbados – Winnipegers are looking for something different from the same destinations offered every year from Winnipeg.
How would your clients describe you? Efficient and friendly.
