‘Disney Wish’ Celebrates a Theme of 'Enchantment'

When the Disney Wish sets sail in JUN, 2022, it will boast a number of firsts including Disney’s “first attraction at sea” — the AquaMouse.

The 760-foot wild water ride combines “theme park thrills, iconic Disney animation and the magic of ocean cruising to create a one-of-a-kind water attraction unlike anything we’ve done before,” promised Danny Handke, senior creative director with Walt Disney Imagineering, in a sneak peek this week.

The ship was created with a “motif of enchantment,” and boasts a fairytale-inspired Grand Hall with the first atrium stage in Disney’s fleet.

Adults can expect Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge, a high-end bar styled as a luxurious, yacht-class spaceship inspired by Dryden Vos’ ship in “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

On the dining front, Worlds of Marvel promises to be the world’s first Marvel cinematic dining adventure, where diners play an interactive role in an Avengers mission that unfolds around them. Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure will be Disney’s first “Frozen”-themed theatrical dining experience where characters perform while people dine on food with Nordic influences.

Disney says Hero Zone, a futuristic sports arena that blends imagination and physical activity and alternates between an elaborate family obstacle course and a free-play sports hub, is a “completely new category of active family play.”

The 84-seat Wonderland and 86-seat Never Land boutique cinemas will be the first in the cruise industry to offer Dolby Atmos 3D audio technology for the most immersive movie-going experience at sea.

The Oceaneer Club, for children ages 3 to 12, will have a Marvel Super Hero Academy where kids can train with Spider-Man and Black Panther, Fairytale Hall and first-of-its kind Walt Disney Imagineering Lab. Kids can opt to enter through a secret entrance that doubles as a slide.

The adults only Enchanté, the ship’s highest-end restaurant, has a menu created by Michelin three-star chef Arnaud Lallement.

“The Disney Wish literally will be like nothing else on the open seas,” said Shelley Gold-Witiak, director of hotel operations and lodging for Disney Cruise Line.

It’s the fifth ship for the Disney fleet and its first to be powered by liquified natural gas, or LNG, one of the cleanest-burning fuels available.

With 1254 staterooms, Disney Wish accommodates 4,000 passengers, with 1,555 crew. 90 per cent are outside with either verandahs or ocean views, and 10 per cent are inside. 451 staterooms have connecting doors to accommodate large or extended family groups.

The Disney Wish will more than double the number of premium concierge staterooms and suites, including Disney’s first seven staterooms located above the bridge, with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the bow. There are 53 concierge staterooms and 23 concierge suites. Of the four royal suites, two are two-storey, and boast spiral staircases any aspiring Disney princess would love.

Disney Cruise Line always includes two characters as hull art on its ships. For Disney Wish, Captain Minnie Mouse appears for the first time on the bow in an intricate scrollwork pattern, “solidifying her pioneering places at the forefront of the fleet’s future.” The “optimistic and adventurous” Rapunzel appears as a custom sculpture on the stern.
