Gap Adventures Ignited The Night
with Taylor Christie

Bruce Poon Tip and his crew at Gap Adventures celebrated their 20th anniversary this month with a gala event they entitled Ignite The Night to raise awareness and benefit a cause extremely close to Gap’s collective heart.

In recognition of World Sight Day, Gap hosted their celebration party in conjunction with their campaign to build a 20/20 Vision Centre in Cambodia and mobile eye camps in Tanzania. Gap partnered with their non-profit Planeterra Foundation to achieve their goal of raising more than $100,000 to help restore sight to thousands of rural Cambodians and Tanzanians.

According to SEVA Canada, there are 314 million people in developing countries with serious vision impairment and over 80% of cases are preventable or treatable. Gap Adventures’ 20/20 Vision Centre will help treat northern Cambodia’s 12,000 blind residents by performing simple cataract procedures.

By all accounts Ignite The Night was a massive success at Toronto’s Berkeley Church. The 400 guests in attendance were entertained by the Zero Gravity Circus troupe performing feats of juggling, fire-spinning and martial arts followed by an After Dark Dance Party.

When Bruce Poon Tip took the stage to say a few words, you could definitely feel how motivated he’s been to make a difference for the visually impaired. “We could think of no better way than to create a brighter future for the people and places who have enriched our lives and the lives of our travelers,” stated Poon Tip.

Many thanks to Gap Adventures for throwing an awesome party and we wish you all the best in championing a worthy cause.

Planeterra will continue to accept donations to support the vision centre on its website, www.Planeterra.org
