Take Me Out To The Ball Game & Don't Forget Your Insurance
with Suzanne Christie

With all the action on the field and in the stands at the Yankees/Blue Jays game – I didn’t have much time to reflect on TIC’s presentations earlier that evening as they showcased their new offices atop the Eaton Centre in downtown hog town.

The Canadian insurance company is justifiably proud of their new digs and their dedicated staff were happy to explain all the intricacies of dealing with folks’ insurance coverage and assistance.

Insurance isn’t really that much fun – certainly not as much fun as a baseball game or an online news magazine – but, don’t tell the TIC departmental team leaders that. Who knew you could have so much fun playing insurance trivia games or that providing insurance to folks is such an upbeat vocation?

Smart travel agents may be well aware, but, it was news to this uninformed travel news media mogul that almost every bill for insurance coverage from the U.S. medical insurance nightmare is double the normal fee for treatment, hospital stay or Dr.’s care. What a scam! The polite people at TIC did not say that – I did. Can you imagine dealing with such a situation on your own?

Fortunately TIC has the resources to be able to prove the American medical treatment charlatans are just that – and manage to cut virtually every bill in half. But, would you or I? Don’t even bother to answer that… just be sure you and your clients have medical insurance when venturing south of the border – or north to Alaska.

But… back to baseball… with visions of American HMO’s still dancing in our heads – we headed over to the Rogers Centre for what must have been one of the craziest games in baseball memory. I read about it afterward and heard other people talking about it… so, I think it must be true.

It was hard to tell from where I was sitting because most of TIC’s guests were so intent on using up every nickel on their most generous $20 food & beverage card at the concessions, there was always somebody moving or standing to block my view or bump the back of my head as they exited their seats repeatedly. Honestly, I’ve been at birthday parties for 6 year olds who sat still for longer.

The real Toronto fans, Blue Jays and grounds crew were just as crazy – all dolled up in the spirit of 80’s night. With all the foul balls flying all over the place… hope those hapless Yankees fans all had their own travel insurance. And last Thursday… they needed the total breakdown clause as the Blue Jays pounded the Yankees 16-7.
