The guest star!
There’s nothing like a touch of Morocco to warm up a dreary December evening. That’s just what 25 travel pros found out when they attended the Morocco presentation hosted by Indus Travel this week. The restaurant may have had a Greek theme, but the mood was definitely Moroccan as counsellors learned some great tips for selling this sometimes under-the-radar destination.
Our host, Harish Shiroff of Indus Travels, reminded agents that the company has a number of group itineraries including its popular 8-day Imperial Cities of Morocco tour. Not only does it include many of the must-see destinations such as Casablanca, Fez, Marrakesh and Rabat (with daily breakfast, 6 dinners and one lunch), it’s presently priced at an amazing $475. As they say, “You can’t stay home for that little money!”
Travel industry consultant, Coralie Belman, gave a detailed presentation on Morocco including some great tips on who is suited to the destination: a fairly well-travelled client who is looking for adventure-lite; history and photography buffs; shoppers and bargain hunters. The country is surprisingly cosmopolitan, she pointed out, with a French and Spanish-influenced history and a huge European tourist clientele who come especially in summer months. Although a Muslim country, female tourists can travel easily and can wear western clothing. (Though all clients should be warned that alcohol cannot be sold or consumed within sight of a mosque). Spring and fall are the ideal seasons to travel when the weather is perfect.
And since no presentation on Morocco is complete without a belly dancer, Harish obligingly provided one, whose swirling costume and tinkling bells proved another antidote to winter!
