Half a century old and looking better than ever, Cosmos turned the big five – O last week. To celebrate its success and looking towards a bright future, Globus family of brands took a walk down memory lane.
Globus originated in Lugano, Switzerland over 80 years ago, so it was ideal for the Swiss Tourist Board to play co-host to the party. “It’s important to celebrate with Switzerland Tourism, as one of Globus’ founders used to work with the tourist board,” said Stephanie Bishop, Managing Director of Globus family of brands. “We are celebrating Cosmos, history and traditions,” Bishop said as she flipped through a slideshow of black and white images – the original coaches used, the many logo transformations and photographs of the original Globus founders.
Approximately 30 guests attended the festivity that was hosted in the Swiss-themed room of YTO’s Marché restaurant. The room was decorated with Swiss souvenirs and flags, and the walls were lined with authentic Swiss barn boards. Guests sipped on the event’s signature Alpine drink – delicious, but potent with vodka and Swiss Appenzeller Alpenbitter, and nibbled on hor d’oeuvres, cheeses and cold cuts.
It was pure coincidence, but Globus was not the only one that got its start in Lugano some years ago. Switzerland Tourism’s Central USA and Canadian Manager, Mirko Capodanno, was also born there. “We are very proud to partner with Globus,” he said. “We’re honoured to be a part of their anniversary celebration.”
And no celebration is complete without cake! To top off the evening and officiate the anniversary, chocolate and vanilla cupcakes alit with sparkling candles were passed around. The cupcakes were decorated with the number 50, and although nobody sang happy birthday, Cosmos probably got to make a wish anyway. Perhaps they wished for another successful 50 years. If so, we are going to need some bigger cupcakes!
