When it comes to your client’s family vacation, who’s the boss? Well, Thomas Cook is putting the focus on the kids with the company’s latest initiative, Thomas Cook Kids First. It was clear who the VIPs were at the product launch, held at YTO’s Corus Quay building last week. In a sun-filled room overlooking the lake, children waited eagerly to get their faces painted while adults enjoyed some coffee and breakfast that included kid favourites - pancake skewers, yoghurt parfaits and smoothies.

“Family dynamics are changing; kids are becoming more involved in the decision-making process when it comes to family vacations,” said Thomas Cook’s Director of Retail Marketing, Jacqueline Grossman. “Our Kids First program addresses this shift by making it easier for Canadian families to choose their holiday destination based on how well it suits their families’ unique needs.”

Offering vacations suited for the entire family, resorts and packages featured in the program are Kid Reviewed and Parent Approved. The Kids First website features video reviews by kids and refers to popular mommy bloggers and parenting experts for their perspective. “Travel reviews are very important in making a decision,” said Grossman.

Working with travel partners, Holiday House, Sunquest, Transat Holidays and WestJet Vacations, Thomas Cook Kids First has selected properties that best cater to families – properties that feature amenities like kid friendly dining, medical assistance near or on site, an in-room mini-fridge, supervised kids programs, rooms that sleep up to 5 guests or resorts where kids eat and stay free.

Although Thomas Cook Kids First is targeted to consumer use, travel agents may find the video reviews and other tools just as useful to help their clients choose the right vacation. As Grossman said, “When you book a Kids First vacation, you are not only getting the best value, you are assured peace of mind that it will be enjoyable for everyone.”
