There’s nothing like a brand new airplane to make aviation fans’ knees go weak – with that “new plane smell” and all. But when it’s also a brand new aircraft type and flying its inaugural trip on the route, then they are about as happy as you can get.

So it was a very contented group of Polish and Eastern European travel agents and tour operators, VIPs and invited guests who convened at Toronto’s Pearson Airport Friday night to await the arrival of LOT’s spanking new 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The airline is the 1st European carrier to serve YYZ on a Dreamliner and you can tell they are very proud of the fact.

What a beauty she is! Configured for 18 Business Class seats, 21 in Premium Economy and 213 in Economy, you can see that the Dreamliner has lived up to its lightweight-eco promise. The washroom doors even feel lighter than on other aircraft and it’s clear the meal trolleys have been designed with their weight factor in mind. But at no sacrifice in comfort, particularly in Business where lucky clients can snooze the 8 hr. flight away on a fully-reclining bed.

Flight attendants have the option of 5 lighting “moods” and every window passenger has their own largish window (not the half-window you see on some aircraft). And the massive overhead bins, designed to carry hand luggage stashed vertically, will be appreciated by all.

Add 8 flights weekly YYZ- WAW, “The least amount of taxes of all European carriers,” according to Ron Roberts, LO’s Area Sales Manager in Toronto and the ongoing development of WAW as a gateway to Eastern Europe and you have a great story. Congratulations – or gratulacje – to all at LOT!
