Aeroplan celebrates its 30th anniversary
To align with the launch of its Distinction program, Aeroplan hosted a unique event for select media at Toronto’s Revolution Recording Studio last week.
The fact that the event was held at a recording studio was ‘distinct’ enough, but the fact that Canada’s award-winning Sam Roberts Band performed for guests was next level.
Not only did the 6 time Juno award winning band showcase select tracks from their new album Lo-Fantasy, they also introduced guests to their self-titled beer - a new venture they began with Spearhead Brewery.
The hit after hit of exclusives showcased at the event were intended to indicate the kind of benefits Aeroplan is offering its members with its Distinction program, said Kevin O’Brien, Chief Commercial Officer.
“The recent addition of exclusives is really, really cool,” O’Brien said. “It’s for members wanting to do something different with their miles and it gives them access to things they wouldn’t usually have access to.”
The Distinction program allows Aeroplan members to use their miles and bid on one-of-a-kind experiences divided by 3 areas of interest:
Escapes - which includes trips and weekend getaways (up for grabs now is the Italian Grand Prix, the 2014 Golf Championship in Louisville and a baseball weekend in Boston).
In the City – which includes tickets to local events (highlighted concerts include Katy Perry, Drake and Shania Twain).
Money Can’t Buy - which includes ‘priceless and highly coveted’ items such as an autographed photo by Carey Price and P.K. Subban and a guitar autographed by the Sam Roberts Band. All proceeds from the Money Can’t Buy category go to Aeroplan’s Beyond Miles Charity.
The event also highlighted Aeroplan’s 30th anniversary. The loyalty program was created by Air Canada in July of 1984 as an incentive for the airline’s frequent flyers.
