Some of the best memories are made while on vacation. And since the Memories Grand Bahama Beach & Casino Resort opened its doors this past February, Canadian families have another memory making option when planning their next sunny getaway.

The Bahamas Tourist Office recently refocused its energy on bringing the once thriving Grand Bahama back to life and the BlueDiamond property is the newest addition to the destination’s resort portfolio. Because the Memories Grand Bahama is the only 4 star, all-inclusive property on the island, the resort stands in a class of its own and is poised to do extremely well this winter.

“We’ve been very pleased with the warm reception from the Canadian market. Grand Bahama is a new destination for Sunwing, and we’ve had to add additional flights to support demand,” said Janine Chapman, V.P. Marketing for Sunwing Travel Group. “I think the pricing represents real value in the English Caribbean and the short flight appeals to Canadians.”

The Bahamas does have a reputation for being an expensive destination, but you’ll find that Grand Bahama is a more affordable option and Canadians are noticing. North Bay’s Danielle Young was staying at the Memories resort as a destination wedding guest. “The bride wanted to go to the Bahamas for her wedding, in particular Nassau. She found it was very expensive,” said Young. “She decided to pick Memories on Grand Bahama because it was less expensive and was an all-inclusive resort. I know the bride and groom were very happy with their choice.”

Memories Grand Bahama is conveniently located next to the 18-hole Reef Golf Course where guests can tee off for free! (A $30 mandatory golf cart fee applies.) And across the street is the Port Lucaya Marketplace, an open-air shopping and entertainment complex, where visitors and locals come together.

According to Young, mingling with locals gave her and her husband, Colin, a true Bahamian experience. “We went off the resort quite a bit and found it felt very safe,” she said. “Colin went to Beerfest on Saturday night and hung out with the local people, and we both went to the Wednesday Night Fish Fry at Taino Beach.”

Here are a few hotel amenities you should be aware of (the ones I found most impressive)…

Diamond Club upgrade:

Paul Strachan, Director of the Bahamas Tourist Office in Canada recommends that you encourage your clients to upgrade to the Memories Grand Bahama’s Diamond Club. “I've experienced it myself and the access to the private Diamond Club lounge with premium drinks and food items; coupled with the exclusive beach area with waiter service and other upgraded services and amenities, just adds an elegant touch to the vacation experience for a nominal additional fee," he said.

Free WiFi:

WiFi connectivity is available throughout the resort – even on the beach!

Free long distance calls to the U.S. and Canada:

Now your clients can keep tabs on the home front (unless they prefer to go off the grid and get away from it all).

The Memories Grand Bahama Beach & Casino Resort is available exclusively through Sunwing and double STAR points can be earned with every booking. This winter, Sunwing will operate weekly flights to FRE from YVR, YEG, YWG, YOW and YUL. Flights from YYZ are offered year round.
