Barbados Tourism, alongside Siren Communications PR firm, hosted a reception at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club on Toronto’s North Island last week. The focus was on the destination’s various festivals and the 65th anniversary of non-stop flight service between Canada and Barbados.

“Barbados has become very active in Canada,” Ann Layton, President, Siren Communications, told Open Jaw. “We are thrilled to be working with them again and we want to encourage more Canadians to visit.”

Barbados was Siren’s 1st client and now that they will once again be their Canadian representative, they are looking forward to gearing their efforts towards the many cultural events taking place at the destination. Upcoming celebrations include the 5th annual Food & Wine & Rum Festival running from Nov. 20th – 23rd. It will feature Canadian Chef Roger Mooking who has participated in Iron Chef America and Top Chef Canada.

To align with the upcoming festival, Roger Goddard of Cutters Deli - located in Crane Beach, Barbados - was on hand at the reception serving his award winning Very Special Rum Punch - made using Mount Gay Rum, of course.

Speaking of which, the annual Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados sailing race taking place on January 21st, 2015 was another featured event during the reception along with the International Windsurfing Championships and the Waterman Festival taking place in February and March 2015. A full listing of events can be found at www.visitbarbados.org

Layton mentioned that since Barbados isn’t an all-inclusive destination, clients that book a trip with Air Canada Vacations before the end of September will receive USD $400 in spending money at participating hotels.
