Air Canada has been all over the map this month – I mean that figuratively and literally. For starters, they have social media on lock down with their Gift of Home video exploding all over Twitter, Facebook and YouTube – to date it has had more than 3 million views. Also, in the past 2 weeks, they’ve expanded their flight operations to Rio, Panama City and Mont Tremblant.
Tremblant is the latest inaugural with service running 4 times a week (Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays and Mondays) until March 30, 2015. The flight is operated by Air Canada Express with a 74-seat Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
“It has been very busy for sure,” Peter Fitzpatrick, Manager Corporate Communications, Air Canada said. “While Rio, Panama and Mont Tremblant got a lot of attention, there were a number of other routes where service is starting too over the next few days, these are seasonal sun routes.”
On Dec. 21 Air Canada launched Montreal-Fort Myers, Vancouver-Los Cabos, Ottawa-Santa Clara, Calgary-Ixtapa, Montreal-Antigua, Winnipeg-Cancun, Toronto-Dominican Republic and Halifax-Fort Lauderdale. On Dec. 22 they started Montreal-Liberia and Montreal-St. Lucia. On Dec. 23 they will release Montreal-Cayo Largo del Sur in Cuba, Toronto-Dominican (POP) on Dec. 25 and Ottawa-Turks and Caicos on Dec. 26.
So, can we call December ‘Air Canada month’?
“Yes, it has been very busy but it is all part of our strategy to focus on international growth through our major hubs. It also gives Canadians plenty of choices when they are looking for somewhere warm and sunny to go this winter.”
This makes me wonder, with such a hype filled end to 2014, is the airline done for the year? Can they put up their feet and enjoy their spiked hot chocolate while chestnuts roast on an open fire?
Not likely as momentum doesn’t seem to be slowing down for 2015.
“The most immediate new route is Montreal-Curacao on Jan. 1, 2015,” said Fitzpatrick. “Air Canada also has new routes coming out later on in the year, including Osaka from Vancouver, and from Toronto we are launching service to Amsterdam, Delhi and Dubai. All I can say is stay tuned.”
I really hope the 27,000 Air Canada employees do take a bit of a break before the New Year. Maybe take a trip to Rio, Panama or Mont Tremblant? Seems fitting.
