Governor
Rick Scott of Florida made a special appearance in Toronto last week to offer
encouragement and incentive to Canadians to visit Florida.
At a press
conference in Union Station, Gov. Scott announced the “Power Play Program,”
offering exclusive deals for Canadians travelling to The Sunshine State.
Canadian
visitation to Florida has been stung by the rising U.S. dollar. But we’re still
the state’s largest source of tourists, contributing
$3.6
billion to the Florida economy in 2016.
“We have 3 million Canadians visiting Florida
each year and we would love to increase that number to 40 million,” Scott joked.
He reported that Florida is back up and running after Hurricane Irma with the
exception of a small part of the Florida Keys. “So, come on down,” Scott said.
VISIT
FLORIDA President & CEO Ken Lawson also made the trip north and said:
“Canada is Florida’s top international market, and we are doubling down on our
efforts to bring more Canadians to the Sunshine State with our new Canadian
Power Play Program.”
The promotion features
20% discounts on airfares, attractions, rental cars and lodging, designed to soften
the exchange gap. Full details are available at
