Let's Get Uncomfortable (LGU) is a platform dedicated to offering a safe space for travel industry professionals to have difficult conversations. The organization is holding a webinar on 15JUN at 4:30 p.m. EST as a follow up to a series of discussions it started in JUL 2020, which explored anti-Black racism in travel and tourism and highlighted steps that the industry can take to prioritize anti-racist practices in the workplace.
The webinar will feature LGU's Shalene Dudley, founder of Latitude Concierge Travels, who will sit down with three travel professionals to discuss their personal journeys with this movement, how—or whether—industry perspectives have changed in the past 12 months, and where we go from here.
Together with Veranda Adkins co-founder of Association of Black Travel Professionals, Elizabeth Buchanan, founder of Paradise Weddings, and Linda Kelly, Travel Product Specialist - Flight Centre Americas, Dudley will call on those in the industry who have stepped up—and those who have stayed silent—during a 1-hour conversation about the crucial role that anti-racism will play in the future of travel and tourism.
The webinar, called, Confronting Anti-Black Racism in Travel & Tourism: One Year Later is open to all travel professionals. You can register for it here.
The discussion will be followed by a 30 minute Q&A session. Those interested in submitting questions in advance can send them to: letsgetuncomfortableevent@gmail.com.
Proceeds from this event will go toward compensating the panellists. It is a great way to support anti-racism work in the tourism industry. Ticket prices are on a sliding scale, with three options to choose from:
-
Free, for individuals in a restrictive financial position
-
$15, for individuals looking to contribute to the cause
-
$50, for individuals and organizations able to make a more substantial investment
Those interested in being silent sponsors can reach out to the LGU team.
