Intended to offset the high cost of fuel prices and further strenghten sustainable modes of transportation, the German Government has introduced the 9-Euro-Ticket for train travel throughout the country.

From 01JUN to 31AUG, travellers can use all of Germany's public local and regional transport for the price of nine euros per month (currently CAD $12.31). The so-called "9-euro ticket" is valid for any number of journeys in the selected month on regional trains, S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains, buses and trams.

By linking through the country's various transport associations, it is possible for travellers to explore all of Germany with local transport, highlights the Germany National Tourist Board (GNTB). €9 tickets are not valid on long-distance trains (e.g. IC or ICE) or long-distance buses.

Tickets can now be purchased throughout Germany from ticket machines, in train stations or online via the sales channels of Deutsche Bahn or local transport associations. Children under the age of 6 can ride for free.

The GNTB notes that different transport associations have different conditions for taking bicycles on board.
