Global luxury travel agency network Virtuoso has revealed its top destinations for 2023 based on its own internal data of more than USD $63.6 billion in travel transactions from its agency members.

Paris has taken the top spot, surpassing Rome and London to make it the most-booked European city in 2022. Virtuoso's hotel analytics predict the same trend will keep up in 2023.

While New York City was the most-booked city in 2022, Virtuoso's 2023 data says that in 2023 the city is 13 per cent ahead of its performance from last year. In contrast, Paris is currently expected to perform 96 per cent better than in 2022, which was already 44 per cent higher than its previous best year of 2019.

Of course, that comes with a cost. Virtuoso says that Paris is the most expensive travel option with average daily rates for leisure hotel bookings in Paris 33 per cent higher than 2019. Hotel rates in Paris are 30 per cent higher than Rome and 21 per cent higher than London, according to Virtuoso.

These are Virtuoso's top 10 most-booked cities for leisure travel in 2023:

  • Paris
  • London
  • New York
  • Nassau
  • Rome
  • Miami
  • Santa Monica
  • Washington, D.C.
  • Venice
