According to the latest Harris Poll Covid-19 tracking survey, two out of three Americans (66 per cent) said that airline passengers should provide proof of vaccination when flying domestically. Support for a domestic air travel vaccine mandate has reportedly remained strong since the summer, where a previous poll in AUG found that 64 per cent of respondents supported the same measure. However, when asked about why the mandate was not implemented, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said “other strategies were highly effective,” including mask requirements and vaccine mandates for travel industry workers, which is “creating a very safe travel environment for Americans.” Buttigieg added: “What we’re doing right now is working to make air travel safe...Between the masking and the other mitigations, we’re very confident in the safety of air travel.”
