Following the reopening of its borders to Canadian tourists, France wants to see Canada reopen to the French. Currently, the Canadian border is closed to foreigners until at least 21JUL, with few exceptions. At the French embassy in Ottawa, the representative of the French government argued the Canadian border should be reopened to the French as soon as possible, with a warning that relations between the two countries will suffer otherwise. "The borders will have to be reopened relatively quickly now for us to put Canada back on our travel plans," Ambassador Kareen Rispal said. “The consequence of the border closure is that there are no more visits. There are no more ministers. There are no more parliamentarians. There are no more manufacturing visits. There are no more visits by artists ... relationships need to be worked on every day, to nourish them." Rispal also highlighted that both France and Canada are designated “green” countries, meaning that COVID-19 is under control. Every time the border issue has come up during PM Justin Trudeau's recent news conferences, he has said he understands everyone's impatience but has noted that the pandemic isn't over.
