Air Canada Plans to Increase Capacity by 23% this Year — Can Airports Cope?

In its recent 2023 Q1 report, Air Canada announced plans to increase capacity by 23 per cent this year, and the Star is asking if Canadian airports can handle the extra traffic —especially after the chaos they saw last summer.

John Gradek, industry expert and former Air Canada executive, says chaos can be avoided - only if the extra capacity is distributed throughout the day instead of chasing traditional 4-8pm peak times. Another expert said that new alert systems implemented at YYZ should prevent overscheduling flights beyond the airport’s ability to cope.
