Air Canada announced significant route cuts out of Calgary for the upcoming winter season due to an ongoing pilot shortage and operational constraints, reports BNN Bloomberg.
Six major routes, including Calgary to Ottawa, Halifax, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Cancun, and Frankfurt, will no longer have non-stop flights starting at the end of OCT.
The airline cited a shortage of regional pilots and supply chain challenges as contributing factors. The pilot shortage, exacerbated by the pandemic, has disrupted training and driven experienced pilots to seek more job stability. Air Canada says it remains committed to Calgary but is adjusting its network schedule based on industry considerations.
