Airlines Scrambling to Cope with Changing Travel Patterns

Shifting travel patterns in the post-pandemic era present a challenge for airlines as they strive to adjust to a new normal, reports Skift. The changing trends are driving up operating costs and hurting revenue as airlines are forced to adjust.

Flexible work arrangements have caused travel demand to soften on days in the middle of the week, but strengthen on peak days. Flights in the U.S. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays have fallen 14 per cent compared with Mondays. Passenger traffic rebounds on Thursdays.

Airlines are also seeing passengers booking flights earlier than they did through much of the pandemic.
