The Alberta government is reviewing programs and grants to support the aviation industry following layoffs during the pandemic and a critical shortage of pilots, reports CBC News.
As travel demand increases, a lack of qualified pilots is pushing airlines off course. The province has allotted approximately $73 million for aviation and tourism, including funding for aviation programs and a Bachelor of Aviation Management.
However, experts say more work is needed to address cost barriers for aspiring pilots and attract talent to the industry. The province is also considering the creation of an aviation centre of excellence.
