Despite the U.S. court ruling in Florida’s favour regarding the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s conditional sailing order, cruise lines are still voluntarily following COVID-19 health and safety guidance. Although the new ruling makes it so the CDC’s orders are now suggestions, cruise lines told the agency that they would continue to follow the provisions on a voluntary basis after being asked to inform the CDC’s marine agency by 26JUL. The CDC did say that cruise lines that did not follow the rules voluntarily would be subject to inspection and “detained” pending completion of sanitation measures. Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean, posted on Facebook: "And so it continues! We will continue to voluntarily follow all CDC guidelines and recommendations." Royal Caribbean has no plans to change the current protocols, spokesperson Lyan Sierra-Caro confirmed to USA TODAY. Norwegian Cruise Line also said it would continue to follow the CDC’s rules and recommendations.
