AMS Flight Caps for Noise, Emissions Reasons Could Cost Dutch Economy €13.6bn

Reducing the number of flights at AMS could cost the Dutch economy €13.6 billion - nearly CAD $20 billion - and drive up plane ticket prices, according to the advocacy group Red Schiphol Campaign, Business Travel Europe is reporting.

The Dutch government has proposed reducing  flights to AMS from 500,000 a year to 440,000 starting in NOV 2024 to address noise concerns and lower emissions. It would mean 1.8-million fewer arrivals than in 2019. Red Schiphol Campaign says there is no way for the Netherlands to replace the capacity - and it put a price tag on the impact to the economy.

Earlier in APR a Dutch court ruled against the government’s plans, but it is planning to appeal.
