Cambodia has begun removing residents around Angkor Wat as it seeks to make improvements to the tourist experience there and protect the site’s UNESCO World Heritage status, reports Skift.
Many residents had established businesses to serve tourists visiting Angkor Wat. As many as 10,000 people have been relocated, and have been given plots of land in distant parts of the country. Prior to the pandemic, the ancient temple complex received more than two million visitors per year.
