AstraZeneca Seeks U.S. Approval for New COVID Prevention Cocktail

AstraZeneca has requested emergency approval from U.S. health regulators for its new antibody cocktail, a protective shot against COVID-19 other than a vaccine. The new technology uses lab-made antibodies designed to stay in the body for months to contain the virus in case of infection instead of relying on an intact immune system to develop targeted antibodies, which is the case with vaccines. The new AstraZeneca solution is designed to last several months to a year, and could protect those with weaker immune systems where a vaccine may be less effective.
