Biden Administration Announces Plan to Speed Authorization of At-Home COVID Tests

The Biden administration announced on 25OCT that it would be making several steps to make rapid, at-home COVID-19 testing more widely available while also lowering costs. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is streamlining its authorization process for the tests, while the National Institutes of Health will spend USD $70m on a new program to accelerate test-makers through regulatory hurdles. The announcement comes as American businesses prepare to implement President Biden’s vaccinate-or-test mandate and as testing remains mandatory to board flights in the U.S.
