As the US reopened its air borders to fully vaccinated internationals, many were left wondering why it did not open its land borders to Canadians, despite American travellers being allowed to enter Canada by air, land or water. Journalist and author Edward Alden, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, says there’s more going on at the Canada-U.S. border than just bureaucratic delays, such as placating nationalist sentiment inside the U.S. The border with Canada did not come up during a US national security meeting held on 21SEP, but instead focused more on the growing crisis at the country’s southern border where Haitian migrants are gathering in hopes of seeking asylum in the US.
