Busy First Week for Newly Re-opened NEXUS Centres

The CBSA and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol have begun re-opening NEXUS enrollment centres across Canada, and immigration agents are working through the backlog of applications and renewals, according to Global News.

The largest delay has been due to in-person interviews, which are needed when people are applying or renewing past an expiry date. Global News reports that interviews for renewal appear to have been dropped in order to clear the backlog. Prior to the pandemic, all applicants had to do in-person interviews.

The Department of Homeland Security’s website says that there is a 12-14 month processing time for new NEXUS applications.
