Canada North has signed a memorandum of understanding with France-based company Flying Whales to develop airships for the Arctic and Canada’s North, reports CBC News.
Because airships use helium to stay afloat and require less fuel compared to airlines, the partnership aims to create an airframe that could significantly reduce the cost of goods in the North.
However, challenges include high winds, cold temperatures and unpredictable weather. Airships also aren’t currently regulated in Canada.
