Cruise Industry in Maritimes Already Preparing for Next Spring

In NOV, cruise ships will officially be allowed to visit Canadian ports once again following the pandemic-related ban on cruising in Canadian waters by the federal government. However, the ban lift on 01NOV is symbolic and more of a confidence booster, as ports in Canada see cruise traffic only during warmer months. So while it will be spring before ports on the east coast see cruise ships, local communities are already beginning to prepare. Andrew Dixon, senior vice-president of trade and business development at the Port of Saint John, as well as the chair of the National Cruise Committee of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities, said the Port of Saint John has a full schedule in place and expects to see a “robust” cruise season in spring 2022.
