DeSantis’ Controversial Policies Spark Florida MICE Cancellations—As Tourism Shows Signs Of Slowing

An increasing number of conventions and conferences are refusing to hold events in Florida in response to the state’s political climate, reports Forbes. 

Controversial policies by Governor Ron DeSantis and state lawmakers regarding LGBTQ rights and race have sparked a backlash, potentially impacting a key part of Florida's economy — adding to a broader slowdown in tourism sectors. At least five groups have reportedly cancelled planned events in Orange County, or announced plans to hold them elsewhere, citing concerns over the state’s anti-humanitarian legislation, political climate and educational policies. 

A spokesperson for DeSantis dismissed the cancellations as a "media-driven stunt," but civil rights groups have issued advisories against travel to the state, as Open Jaw reported
