Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to appoint a new board to control Reedy Creek, a self-governing district that is run by The Walt Disney Company. As reported by NBC News, the current district structure allows Disney to maintain its own infrastructure and public services as well as raise taxes and issue bonds to finance its resorts’ operations.
Under the proposed legislation, Disney will be responsible for its outstanding debts and will pay taxes to the state. Florida legislators already voted in 2022 to dissolve all special districts like Reedy Creek in Florida by JUN 2023, but NBC says it is not immediately clear how the earlier vote impacts this new proposal.
