FL Governor Ron DeSantis announced a series of actions on 17APR that the state plans to take against Disney World, including legislation that would nullify Disney’s development agreement giving them extraordinary power over the property, according to NBC News.
The new laws would allow the state to inspect rides at the theme park, which is currently exempt from inspections. The state could also develop land next to the park.
DeSantis has been in a long-running feud with the company, for reasons including its opposition to a bill limiting teaching sexual orientation in school. The special district where Disney World is located was originally created to permit the company to operate with little government oversight.
As Open Jaw reported earlier in APR, the Florida government created a special board to oversee the special district where Disney World is located. At the same time, Disney announced that it had given itself new special powers over the district, blocking the state’s move at that time.
