DeSantis to Decide on Key West Cruise Ships in Wake of $1M Campaign Donation from Pier Owner

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis faces a decision on the future of cruise ships in Key West, where residents have long sought restrictions on these vessels to protect the marine environment, reports Yahoo.

Despite local ballot measures imposing controls on cruise ships, the state Legislature, backed by DeSantis, overturned them. Now, the operator of Key West's cruise ship port seeks expansion, raising environmental concerns.

The issue has sparked a legal battle, with activists accusing the port owner of underpaying state fees. The governor's decision is anticipated in DEC 2023.
