Disney Parks Post Profit as Pandemic Recovery Continues

Disney’s theme park division posted a profit for the third quarter of 2021, marking a milestone of post-pandemic economic recovery. During the third quarter, Disney theme park income reached USD $356 million, compared to the USD $1.87b loss in the same period last year. Revenue increased to USD $4.3b in the quarter, up significantly from USD $1.1b in revenue in the same period in 2020. “We ended the third quarter in a strong position, and are pleased with the Company’s trajectory as we grow our businesses amidst the ongoing challenges of the pandemic,” Disney CEO Bob Chapek said in a statement. Disney attributed the growth to the reopening of theme parks that were closed in 2020, including Disneyland Resort in California. Despite the rise of COVID-19 cases in Florida, attendance in Disney World remains at or near daily capacity levels according to Disney executives.
