According to Travel Weekly, exploring the Dominican Republic will soon be more accessible. The country is launching a USD $3 billion privately-funded rail project connecting Punta Cana and Santo Domingo, with the trip taking only 58 minutes and costing less than a bus fare.
The project will be executed in five phases, with the first two phases including a route to the country's second-largest city, Santiago de los Caballeros, to be completed in three years. The entire rail line, covering the country and linking ports and airports, will take up to 15 years. Tourism experts anticipate the rail will attract tourists seeking authentic Dominican experiences.
