Due to Pilot Shortage, Air Canada Pulls Out of Penticton; Community Concerned about Maintaining Air Connectivity

Air Canada has announced its decision to discontinue service to Penticton, B.C., starting in 2024, due to a regional pilot shortage, reports Global News.

Local leaders are expressing concerns about the negative impact on the local economy. Penticton Mayor Julius Bloomfield and the Chamber of Commerce are disappointed with the decision, stating that it will harm tourism and lead to job losses. They have reached out to other airlines for potential partnerships.

Air Canada insists that the region will still be served through Kelowna airport. Community members are urging Air Canada to find alternative solutions.
