EU to Recommend Lifting Travel Restrictions on American Tourists

The European Union is expected to recommend that member countries start lifting restrictions on tourists from the U.S. On 16JUN, EU ambassadors agreed to consider adding the United States to the list of countries from which nonessential travel is allowed, and will formally vote on the motion on 18JUN. If approved, it would apply to all U.S. travelers, including those who are not vaccinated. However, it is important to note that the EU recommendation is nonbinding and not enforceable. Each of the EU’s 27 member states can decide how and when to adopt the recommendation and set its own guidelines for entry. Canada is not on the EU’s initial list of countries.
