European Travel and Tourism Sector and IATA Launch “Destination Summer” Campaign to Call for Resumption of Travel

Airlines For Europe (A4E), Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and the European Travel Retail Confederation (ETRC) have launched the “Destination Summer” as a joint effort to work with the EU to adopt a smooth transition for lifting travel restrictions in the Union. The coalition is calling on the Union to restore travel, swiftly implement its digital COVID-19 certificate system, provide affordable COVID-19 testing to end blanket quarantines, and push for the resumption of non-essential international travel. The “Destination Summer” campaign asks European travel enthusiasts to share their love and need for travel while following official rules to show why travel is vital. “Freedom of movement is a core European principle and citizens need to be able to move both freely and safely. After 15 months of lockdowns and travel restrictions, it’s time to reunite travellers in Europe. We need to see a coordinated easing of restrictions. Our campaign urges policy-makers to recognise the speedy, positive impact of vaccinations and scientific knowledge gained the last year for EU countries to better coordinate and restore free movement for citizens”, said Thomas Reynaert, Managing Director, Airlines for Europe (A4E).
