European Travel Recovery ‘Not Expected Until 2024’

According to the latest forecast from the European Travel Commission (ETC), travel levels in the region are not expected to surpass pre-pandemic volumes until 2024. Travel volume is far from pre-MAR 2020 levels despite Europe’s high vaccination rate. A slower vaccine rollout across eastern Europe, and in some large long-haul source markets, may potentially delay the recovery, “presenting a lingering downside risk”. The ETC noted an absence of long-haul travellers, with U.S. arrivals to Europe remaining 90 per cent below 2019 for one third of reporting destinations.
