Expect a Warmer Winter Due to El Nino and Climate Change, Environment Canada Says

The Toronto Star reports that Canadians can expect milder temperatures this winter, particularly in Western Canada, due to the combined influence of El Nino and ongoing climate change, according to Environment Canada analysts.

Nathan Gillett, a research scientist, highlighted the substantial winter warming in Canada, predominantly caused by human-induced climate change. The El Nino, termed "Little Boy" in Spanish, is characterized by warm Pacific Ocean waters and is set to contribute to an unusually warm holiday season.

Despite potential benefits, such as reduced snow, experts caution against overlooking adverse effects, including invasive species survival, challenging travel conditions in the north, and impacts on water resources.
