Experts Weigh In on New Travel Insurance Needs and Products for Canadians

As tourism begins to resume globally, experts say purchasing travel insurance is necessary if Canadians want to stay safe while abroad. Wendy Paradis, president of the ACTA, said that having adequate coverage while travelling outside of Canada is "always important," but even more so during the pandemic as health conditions and travel restrictions can change suddenly. Martin Firestone, president of Travel Secure Inc., a Toronto-based company that specializes in travel insurance, added that Canadians shouldn't leave the country without insurance. Firestone says that insurance companies are now providing COVID-19-specific travel insurance for medical expenses, including quarantining after a positive test, but the coverage and cost is dependent on the vaccination status of the traveller.
