Flight ‘Paralysis’ From Canada Hits Costa Rica’s Tourism Hard

The loss of flights from Canada to Costa Rica has hit its tourism sector, as Canada represents 7 per cent of the country's tourists as the second biggest tourism market.
According to the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), the country has experienced a drop of 93.5 per cent of Canadian visitors compared to early 2019. Even compared to the numbers of the first five months of 2020, Canadian arrivals decreased by 91.4 per cent. This loss means that the country received a USD $147m loss in revenue. The report pointed out that Canadian travel restrictions to the country are still strict for returning travellers, meaning that Costa Rica may not be considered for airlines such as Air Canada and WestJet until AUG 2021.
